Project: Intergroup Dialogue

Intergroup dialogues (IGD) are face-to-face meetings of people from different social identity groups that have a history of conflict or potential conflict.  They are designed to offer an open and inclusive space where participants can honestly confront and discuss issues in order to foster a deeper understanding of diversity and social justice.

IGD provides a safe space for individuals to discuss difficult, controversial, and even taboo topics that many people think about daily but don't have a structure from which to discuss these issues in depth.  Participants reflect on relevant issues, work with differences and conflicts, and identify socially just actions they can take individually and in alliance with others

Project: PeerXchange Program

PeerXChange is a college program that I helped to design and coordinate on the IUPUI campus.  The program matches college students on the autism spectrum with a peer mentor (another college student) to assist with the transition to the college.

PeerXChange is an Easter Seals Crossroads partnership program that partnered with IUPUI and subsequently with Butler University, University of Indianapolis, Ivy Tech Community College (Indianapolis Campus), and Ball State University.

The students meet up on campus to discuss time management skills, the importance of health and well ness, appropriate involvement in social activities, how to connect to campus resources and transition into the college environment.

Center of Hope

Project: Client Data Managememt System

Sexual assault is a serious public health problem in Indiana. The six Centers of Hope (COH) in the Indianapolis metro-area take care of the physical and emotional needs of sexual assault victims as well as collect forensic evidence. Because no unified intake form or data collection tool existed, much of the potential information about prevalence and predictors of sexual assault and quality control data were lost.

The purpose of the project was to create a central database tool that would 1) unify data collection between all six centers, 2) be user-friendly, and 3) provide new information about sexual assault trends.

Each of the COH's previous data intake forms and collection tools were analyzed for commonalities. Other state's tools were analyzed via the internet. The data collection tool was created using Microsoft Excel.

The new database tool includes all necessary Victims of Crimes Act (VOCA) grant, intake form, and quality assurance (QA) information. The necessary data is totaled into a Grand Total Sheet displaying monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and yearly data. Data from multiple centers can be merged and analyzed for trends. The QA data allows coordinators to assess their center's ability to meet patient needs.
