What's happening now: 2015 HIGHLIGHTS

Post-Viewing Expert Panelist

SHE’S BEAUTIFUL WHEN SHE’S ANGRY captures the spirit of the time --- thrilling, scandalous, and often hilarious.

The event was sponsored by IUPUI Office for Women, Office of Student Involvement, IU School of Medicine Women’s Advisory Council, IUSM National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health and the American Medical Women Women’s Association chapter, Women’s Studies Program – IU School of Liberal Arts

I was honored to be invited to be a panelist following the 2015 Indiana premier of the documentary film which tells the story of the women who started the “second wave” of feminism from 1966- 71 fighting for their own equality and in the process creating a global revolution. The film does not shy away from the controversies over race, sexual preference, human rights, women's health, and leadership that arose in the women’s movement.

Is Indy Next?

The first part of the year presented the opportunity to co-develope a three part multi-university and campus-wide series of events that helped IUPUI and Martin University continue to process the most recent reactions to Police/Civilian deaths across our nation. Theses events brought, students, educators,  community leaders, law enforcement and others together to discuss issues that have occurred in Ferguson in and if those issues could happen here at home.

Phase One... We ceatively expressed, processed and, shared emotions.

Phase Two...We asked questions and shared perspectives.

Phase Three...We engaged deeper in order to equip ourselves to build together.

2015 American Association for Blacks in Higher Ed. National Conference was held in North Charleston, South Carolina April 9 - 12, 2015.

While I was honored to be asked to present on two diverse subjects ("E-portfolio: A Pathway to Catapult a Career" and  "Race and Gender Identity: a Pathway to Move Beyond the Binary") the most impactful event of the Conference actually took place a few miles away.  Days before my arrival North Charleston caputure the attention of the Nation as it responded to the shooting death of Walter Scott by a police officer. There was an air of uneasy familuarity to this tradgedy that was unexcapable throughout the confernce.
